Overview
Blue Lake lookout is in Kosciuszko National Park near Main Range walk. It’s a great spot to take in stunning views of the majestic Blue Lake.
Blue Lake is one of only 4 glacial lakes on mainland Australia, and Blue Lake lookout is well worth a visit if you’re tackling the challenging Main Range walk. Providing a safe vantage point, you can enjoy spectacular views of the lake, glacial erosion and alpine high country.
Blue Lake was listed as a Ramsar Wetland of international significance in 1996, and is a rare example of a near-natural alpine wetland. It’s home to several threatened and endangered plant and animal species, including the mountain pygmy-possum, alpine tree frog and anemone buttercup.
When visiting Blue Lake lookout, please keep to the track as much as possible to avoid damaging this pristine environment. The nearby paths to the lake, creek and Hedley Tarn are closed to allow the area to recover.
