Firewood collection permits are:

  • Only available to permanent NSW residents that live in the Riverina Bioregion and Balranald Shire. Each household can only collect up to 6 tonnes per year.

When and where can firewood be collected with a permit?

Firewood can only be collected in select areas of  Murray Valley National Park, Murrumbidgee Valley National Park and Yanga National Park. The areas can change from time to time, depending on conditions like flooding and the amount of woody debris available.

Firewood collection is only allowed from 1 April to 30 September, and will not be permitted during this period if:

  • Park access is restricted due to public health, fire, safety, conservation or operational requirements.
  • Coarse woody debris levels reach 45 tonnes per hectare.
