Safety alerts: Visitor Advisory - Road Access to Crowdy Bay National Park Campgrounds
Due to ongoing wet weather, road access to Crowdy Bay National Park has significantly deteriorated. Although a grader is on standby, the persistent rain over recent months has prevented essential maintenance works from being carried out.
Recommended Access Route:
For visitors with 2WD, low-clearance vehicles or those towing caravans, the most suitable access to Diamond Head, Indian Head, and Kylies Beach campgrounds is via Diamond Head Road from the north, through Laurieton. To reach Laurieton, take the Kew exit from the Pacific Highway.
Access from Moorland and Harrington along Diamond Head and Crowdy Bay Roads is CLOSED due to significant water over road, slippery and dangerous road surface.
Indian Head and Crowdy Gap Camping Areas are CLOSED.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program from 11th May 2025 to 1st June 2025.
The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.
The program will take place in Barakee National Park, Barrakee State Conservation Area, Biriwal Bulga National Park, Bugan Nature Reserve, Ghin-Doo-Ee National Park, Goonook Nature Reserve, Talawahl Nature Reserve, Tapin Tops National Park and Wallamba Nature Reserve
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The section of Glow Worm Tunnel walking track from the Glow Worm Tunnel exit to the 'four ways' intersection, Wolgan Valley will remain closed until further notice.
Recent heavy rainfall has caused landslips along this section of Glow Worm Tunnel walking track.
The Glow Worm Tunnel can still be accessed via the Glow Worm Tunnel carpark. Newnes Industrial Ruins and the Newnes Campgrounds can only be accessed via the Pipeline Track from Glen Davis or by Old Coach Road on weekends.

Adverse weather conditions have caused erosion to some access trails to Werrikimbe NP. Hastings Forest Way remains the best access to Brushy Mountain and Plateau Beech Campgrounds and 4WD vehicles are recommended.
Cockerawombeeba Road is not suitable for 2WD vehicles and access via this road should be avoided.

Closed areas: Closed roads due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred in New England National Park
Closed roads in New England National Park until 31 August due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred. Road blocks have been installed on the Horseshoe road to prevent vehicle movements at the Killikrankie Mountain Lookout intersection in the north and at Kilprotay road Intersection to the south. In addition, Kilprotay road has developed a natural road blockage about 3.5 km from the intersection with the Horseshoe road.
Two significant events have been identified, affecting the roading network in New England National Park:
- Horseshoe road – culvert blow out and undermining of road, no through access
- Kilprotay road – major landslip (~3.5km from the top intersection with the Horseshoe road), no through access
- Gaddes Ridge road - major landslip, no through access
These closures will remain in place until geohazard assessments can be undertaken and works completed. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Ngambaa Feral Predator Free Area - Closed Roads
Construction is complete on the Ngambaa Feral Predator-Free Area which has necessitated the closure of roads in the reserve for visitor safety.
Cedar Park picnic area will remain open and available for visitor access.
The following roads are subject to permanent closure as part of the construction and operation of the feral predator free area:
- Wittigs Road
- parts of Stockyard Creek Road
- Seams Road
- Jacks Road
- Buds Crossing Road
Construction works were completed in August and the 23k of fencing is complete.
Construction works have included:
- clearing the fence corridor
- building the fence
- installing bridge and culvert crossings.

Shooting operations will occur on select nights throughout this period. The operations will run from sunset to sunrise in areas that are closed for public access.

Walking trails in the Diamond Head section of Crowdy Bay National Park will be affected by closures from 3rd March 2025 for maintenance and erosion repair.
The works will involve repairing significant erosion sustained in the 2022 floods, along reinstating drainage, installing stairs, seating and other supportive infrastructure. The walking trails affected are:
- Diamond Head Loop walk
- Forest walking track
Walking trails will be closed during the week, with every effort made to reopen trails for weekends and public holidays.
The works are expected to take four months to deliver, however this is weather dependant.

Feral horses move through this campground day and night. Campers at Little Murray and Polblue campgrounds should set up tents as close to their vehicles as possible.
Aggressive horse behaviour can pose a safety risk for visitors. Aggressive behaviour includes snorting, head bobbing, stomping front legs, ears erect, aggressive stance and approaching in an aggressive manner.
What to do around aggressive horses:
· avoid the animals, especially if a stallion is present and there are mares nearby
· retreat to your vehicle
· wave your arms around and make lots of noise
· walk in a group rather than as an individual
· always be aware of your immediate surroundings.

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It's been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.
Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.
