Safety alerts: Road maintenance to Walls and Red Top Roads

Road maintenance (grading) is scheduled for the Walls and Red Top Roads from Wednesday 2 April 2025 until Friday 11 April 2025.

Follow the safety signage and any directions from the road maintenance crew. Take care and drive safely.

The roads will remain open during the maintenance works.

Safety alerts: Variable condition of unsealed Council access roads

Council-managed access roads to Mungo National Park are unsealed and in variable condition. Before travelling on any unsealed roads, please check road condition reports for Balranald, Wentworth and Central Darling Shires. Do not travel on closed Council roads.

There are numerous access routes to Mungo National Park and conditions can change quickly due to the weather.

The Mungo lakebed (bike) trail is closed.

The dual walking track and bike trail from Mungo Visitor Centre to Zanci Woolshed remains open for use.

The Mungo Self Guided Drive Tour is closed at Red Top lookout.

The Walls Road and Pastoral Loop are open to the key attractions of Mungo lunette (Walls of China), Red Top lookout boardwalk and Zanci homestead/woolshed precinct.

Belah campground remains closed.

Other planned events: NOTICE OF PLANNED PIG TRAP SHOOTING

The National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting pig trapping involving ground shooting programs for the management of feral pest species within Yanga National Park over the month (April).

NPWS is undertaking the management of feral pest animals to protect the biodiversity and cultural values of these conversation areas. Only qualified trained personnel will participate in the ground culling programs. These programs supplement other control measures undertaken throughout the year.

Visitor facilities will be open to the public during the pest control operation, although restrictions may be in place for other areas requiring authorised access.

Other incidents: Blue Green Algae Alert

There is currently a Blue Green Algae AMBER Alert for Yanga Lake. Blue-green algae may be multiplying, and the water may have a green tinge and musty or organic taste and odour. The
water should be considered as unsuitable for potable use and alternative supplies or prior treatment of raw water for domestic purposes should be considered. The water may also be unsuitable for stock watering. Generally suitable for water sports, however people are advised to exercise caution in these areas, as blue-green algal concentrations can rise to red alert levels quickly under warm, calm weather conditions.     $8 per vehicle per day. Fees are payable through self-registration envelopes outside Mungo Visitor Centre. Different fees apply for commercial tour operators and vehicles with 8 seats or more.
